During pregnancy, a woman's body changes completely in order to accommodate the demands of creating a new life. This leads to exacting nutritional demands: the expectant mother needs to get adequate nutrition to sustain the healthy development of another human being, while at the same time meeting her own needs. If these needs are not met, complications or problems may arise, including birth defects and pregnancy complications. This is why nutritional needs during pregnancy are unique, and why it is essential that pregnant women, and even women who are trying to become pregnant, use a supplement specifically designed for their needs. Health authorities now recommend that all women who might fall pregnant take a folic acid supplement.
It has been known for some time that adequate folic acid intake during pregnancy is important for preventing certain neurological birth defects. Scientific research has conclusively demonstrated that a deficiency of folic acid is a risk factor for the foetus developing neural tube defects, that is, defects of the brain and/or the spinal cord. This can lead to still birth, or to life-long disability, specifically, neural tube defects. A 2006 review found that supplementation with prenatal multivitamins, which contain extra folic acid, was associated with a 48 percent reduction in neural tube defects. This alone would be great news, but it gets better. In addition to a reduction in neural tube defects, the researchers found that prenatal multivitamin use was associated with a significant reduction in the risk of various other birth defects:
* 39 percent fewer cardiovascular defects
* 47 percent fewer limb deformities
* 58 percent reduction in cleft palate cases
* 53 percent reduction in urinary tract deformities
* 63 percent reduction in hydrocephalus (water on the brain)
If that is not encouraging enough, consider this: in a separate review, published in February 2007, another group of researchers concluded that use of a prenatal multivitamin may also reduce the risk of three of the most common type of childhood cancers: brain tumour, neuroblastoma and leukemia. They found that children of mothers who had taken prenatal multivitamins appeared to have:
* An 18 percent reduction in risk of brain tumours
* A 47 percent decrease in risk of neuroblastoma
* A 36 percent decrease in leukemia
SISU Supreme Multi Expecting requires only two pills a day; it's hard to believe that something so small could have such large effects on an unborn baby, but the evidence so far suggests that it really does make a difference.
After conception, the need for iron soars, as iron is required to grow the foetus and nurture its brain. In addition, the foetus lays down iron stores that should last it through the first six months of independent life. All of this makes iron supplementation essential to avoid anemia in the mother - especially as this can lead to problems such as premature or low birth-weight babies. SISU Supreme Multi Expecting contains 15mg of the highly absorbable and less constipating citrate form of Iron per capsule.
Another important consideration is that if nutrition is inadequate, nature ensures that the foetus will be allocated nutrients at the expense of the mother. This means that the pregnant women's health may suffer - so that she is in poor shape, mentally and physically, to deal with the stresses and demands that inevitably arrive with the birth of a baby.
How SISU Supreme Multi Expecting Helps
SISU Supreme Multi Expecting has been carefully formulated to be a premium supplement for the specific needs of expectant mothers. For a start, it has the maximum amount of Folic Acid, to guard against neural tube defects in the foetus. It also has high potency B vitamins, to help with pregnancy-related nausea and stress in the expectant mother, and to support the development of a healthy brain and nervous system in the foetus. Supreme Multi Expecting also has high doses of Vitamins C and E; a high dose of an easily absorbed form of Vitamin D; a high dose of iron in its least constipating, citrate form; and important trace minerals such as Zinc, Selenium and Molybdenum. These are all sourced from pure, natural ingredients, to ensure optimal health benefits.
Consult a health care practitioner prior to use if you are taking tetracyclines, or if you have a history of non-melanoma skin cancer or impaired liver function. Do not use if you have a copper storage or metabolism disorder, such as Wilson's disease.
