New Roots Vitamin E8. New Roots Vitamin E8 contains all eight members of the vitamin E family - four tocopherols and four tocotrienols - extracted from vegetable oils that are present in their natural, fully active unesterified form. The eight members of the vitamin E family have some functions that are similar and other functions that are completely different. Also where they go in our body is different especially for alpha-tocopherol versus the others. This is because our body has a mechanism to tell alpha-tocopherol from the others. Vitamin E has other functions completely unrelated to its role as an antioxidant. These vitamin E compounds are antioxidants and serve to trap free radicals that can damage cell membranes, protein, and DNA. Each member of the vitamin E family, however, has its own unique benefits. Gamma-tocopherol, for example, has a greater ability to detoxify nitrogen radicals that are associated with neurological disease, inflammation, and prostate cancer.

Additional Information:
Tocotrienols:
Like vitamin E, tocotrienols offer protection against the hardening of arteries by preventing oxidation of LDL (low-density lipoprotein). LDL cholesterol oxidation is believed to be one of the triggering factors for atherosclerosis. Test tube and animal studies indicate an interesting role for tocotrienols in protecting against breast and skin cancer.
Scientists are finding that tocotrienols slow down a liver enzyme that plays a key role in the synthesis of cholesterol, where tocopherols have no such effect. A clinical study on humans indicated that a mixture of tocopherols and tocotrienols not only slowed down the narrowing of carotid arteries but also reversed the condition in forty percent of the cases.
Only New Roots Herbal`s Vitamin E contains sterols and beta-sitosterols due to its natural source. Recent studies indicate that sterols and beta-sitosterols are useful in treating benign prostatic hyperplasia, cholesterol problems and in strengthening the immune system. One softgel of New Roots Herbal`s Vitamin E delivers 20mg of sterols and 13mg of betasitosterols, a higher dose than what is available in sterol products sold on the market today. This indicates an added value of sterols and beta-sitosterols included with all of the benefits of Vitamin E.
Squalenes have been shown to retain skin moisture, to heal wounds, to enhance the immune system and to strengthen the resistance to cancer.
New Roots Vitamin E is the only guaranteed non-G.M.O. product that is available in all of North America. Nearly all other vitamin E is made from soybeans purchased in North America that are genetically modified or contaminated from genetically modified fields.
The processors claim that when they process these beans, they are leaving the contaminated protein out, yet this procedure seems next to impossible. Of the selected beans tested for contamination, it does not account for 0.1% of the beans used in North America for making vitamin E. To make vitamin E, it takes over five thousand acres of soybeans to produce one 45 gallon barrel. Interestingly enough, in North America, the total crop planted in 2003 was 70% genetically modified. With these numbers, cross contamination would seem certain.

What is G.M.O.?
Genetically modified foods are foods that have had foreign DNA added to their composition with new proteins encoded by the inserted genes. In the case of soybeans, the claim is they work as "molecular characterisation", which in reality, means they have inserted an unatural gene to ensure they are not destroyed by weed killer. Looked at from outside of commercial interests, perils are multi-dimensional. They include the creation of new "transgenic" life forms - organisms that have crossed unnatural gene lines (such as tomato seed genes crossed with fish genes) - and that have unpredictable behaviour or replicate themselves out of control in the wild. This can happen, without warning, inside of our bodies, creating an unpredictable chain reaction. A four-year study at the University of Jena in Germany conducted by Hans-Hinrich Kaatz revealed that bees ingesting pollen from transgenic rapeseed had bacteria in their gut with modified genes. This is called a "horizontal gene transfer." Commonly found bacteria and micro organisms in the human gut help maintain a healthy intestinal flora. These, however, can be mutated. Plants typically contain 20-40000 genes and the functions of the majority of these genes are not yet understood, and the random nature of conventional plant breeding has produced potentially harmful products on a number of occasions. The question remains, --- will there be an effect 20 years from now from genetically modified plants and foods? Vitamin E is an antioxidant that prevents saturated fatty acids and vitamin A from breaking down and combining with other substances that may become toxic to the body. The vitamin B complex and ascorbic acid are also protected against oxidation when vitamin E is present in the digestive tract. Vitamin E has the ability to unite with oxygen and prevent it from being converted into toxic peroxides; this leaves the red blood cells full with pure oxygen that blood carries to the heart and other organs. Vitamin E plays an essential role in cellular respiration of all muscles, especially cardiac and skeletal. This vitamin makes it possible for these muscles and their nerves to function with less oxygen, thereby increasing their endurance and stamina. It also causes dilation of blood vessels, permitting a greater flow of blood to the heart. It is a highly effective antithrombin in the bloodstream, inhibiting blood coagulation by preventing clots from forming. It also aids in nourishing cells, strengthening the capillary walls, and protecting the red blood cells from destruction by poisons in the blood. Because aging of cells is due primarily to oxidation, vitamin E is useful in retarding this process. A sufficient amount of vitamin E allows for greater storage and reduces the requirement of vitamin A. It stimulates urine secretion. As a diuretic, it helps lower elevated blood pressure. It also protects against the damaging effects of many environmental poisons and toxins in the air, water, and food we eat.

Actions
Vitamin E works to treat and prevent heart diseases. It is needed also to help dissolve scars in the arterial walls caused by toxic substances. Free radicals cause a process called cross-linking, which can result in skin wrinkles. Adequate intake of vitamin E could be helpful in counteracting premature aging of the skin. It also helps counter the gradual decline of metabolic processes during aging. Vitamin E has been successful in regulating excessive or scanty flows during menstruation. When it is added to the diet, it can correct menstrual rhythm. It is recognised as a treatment for hot flashes and headaches during menopause. It has been successfully used in the treatment of non-cancerous breast tissue known as fibro cystic breast disease; vitamin E also decreases the breast tenderness women experience during premenstruation. This vitamin helps promote body defences against virus infections and in some cases may be utilized as a flu vaccine. High doses may build both the serum and the cellular levels of the body to high levels of immunity against flu symptoms. Vitamin A and E may be beneficial in lowering blood cholesterol by preventing fat deposits on arterial walls.Vitamin E is used for easing headaches because it preserves the oxygen in the blood for an extended period.Vitamin C and E work together to keep blood vessels flexible and healthy.
