Prairie Naturals HempProtein is more than a protein powder. It’s a more balanced way of living and eating. Hempseeds yield a high protein, nutrient dense food that nourishes us without depleting the soil or using vast amounts of water. This ecologically sound protein powder is completely green and 100% vegan. HempProtein delivers superior quality protein containing every one of the essential amino acids our bodies need. Naturally balanced omega fats in HempProtein reduce inflammation; strengthen hearts; promote resilient skin, flexible joints and enhanced immunity.
We all know daily protein intake is an important part of healthy living. The origin of the word protein is one of the first clues to appreciating just how important protein is to our health. It’s derived from the Greek word “proteios” meaning "holding first place" or "of primary importance." That makes sense when you consider that there is more protein in our body than any other
substance except water.
When it comes to protein requirements, there is no “One Size Fits All.” Everyone has individual protein requirements based on their general state of health and activity level. Minimum requirements set by the World Health Organization (WHO) are .75 g of good quality protein per kilogram of body weight. This means that a person with a normal weight of 70 kg needs about 50 grams of protein in their daily diet.
The effects of not getting enough protein can be subtle. Low energy, craving sweets, weight gain and recurring colds are just a few of the many signs indicating you may need more protein in your daily diet. Suboptimal protein consumption can also lead to growth and developmental abnormalities in children; impaired tissue development; problems with hair, skin, nails; mental
depression; muscle weakness (including the heart); lowered resistance to infections due to immune deficiency; slow healing of wounds; delayed recovery from disease and surgery; decreased nutrient transport in the body; hair loss; prematurely gray hair; and joint inflammation. Protein loss also commonly occurs due to stress; surgery; hemorrhage; wounds; strenuous
physical exercise and prolonged illness.
Recent research points increasingly to protein as a key factor in promoting weight loss in overweight and obese people. An article published in the May 2008 edition of The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition titled “Protein, weight management, and satiety” surmises that protein generally satisfies the appetite to a greater extent than carbohydrates and fats. The authors
also concluded that higher protein diets increased thermogenesis and muscle growth.
Made from specially processed raw hemp seeds, HempProtein supplies a well absorbed source of complete protein with all the essential amino acids. It also yields significant amounts of a unique protein component called edestin. Similar in structure and function to proteins in the human body that make up our own enzymes, antibodies, blood and hormones, edestin has the power to repair and defend our body’s cells. Edestin likely also plays a role in the superior digestibility and nonallergenic
nature of hempseed protein. Albumin, another high quality globulin protein is also present in HempProtein.
You won’t find any cholesterol, trans or unfriendly saturated fats in HempProtein. But you will find up to 120 mg of gamma linolenic acid (GLA) per serving, along with omega 3 and omega 6 fats in the optimal 3:1 ratio as recognized by the World Health
Organization (WHO). Omega fats and GLA support a wide range of important physiological functions in the human body
from acting as an anti-inflammatory to regulating cholesterol levels and modulating immune response. Researchers have also
found balanced ratio omega fats to play a key role in the prevention of heart disease, diabetes and depression. Eating more plant source proteins with naturally balanced omega fats - just like HempProtein - reduces all kinds of inflammation.
