Mesquite seeds were eaten for centuries by indigenous people of the southwestern United States and parts of South America. Traditionally they were prepared by crushing the pods and then grinding the seeds into a powder. The Powder has a sweet but nutty taste, and can then be used as a flour, sweetener or add in ingredient for flavour and nutrient benefits in foods and beverages.
Mesquite is a deeply rooted tree that pulls up many nutrients, concentrating them in its seeds.
