Suggested Dosage:
The standard dose of 400 units that is found in most multivitamin tablets appears to be too low to prevent falls or reduce fracture risk, but the optimal dose is unknown. Fractures were reduced in clinical trials using 700 to 800 units of vitamin D daily. For preventing falls, 800 IU per day has been used in combination with calcium 1200 mg per day. Some authorities recommend 1000 units per day for older adults who are not exposed to sunlight.
