High concentrations of this vitamin were initially found in spinach - known in Latin as folium. This gave rise to the common name, Folic Acid.
Folic Acid is a water soluble vitamin that is readily absorbed into the body and rapidly excreted. It must be replenished frequently.
Folic Acid is sensitive to light, heat (cooking) and air.
Effectiveness is limited by alcohol, physical or emotional stress, drugs such as oral contraceptives, methotrexate and sulphonamides.
