Bilberry-Grapeskin
Bilberry-Grapeskin is a standardized Swedish bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus, 25% anthocyanosides) and grapeskin polyphenol supplement. These types of antioxidants are flavonoids, a water-soluble category of polyphenols (chemical plant compounds with medicinal properties).

The flavonoids in Bilberry-Grapeskin are particularly proficient in supporting visual function. This is because anthocyanidins (a type of flavonoid) have a high affinity for the epithelium (the cellular layer) of the retina. Within the epithelium of the retina, there is a pigment known as rhodopsin, which is also known as retinal purple. Retinal purple allows for night vision and is extremely sensitive to light, so much so that when exposed to white light it immediately breaks down, requiring about 30 minutes for full regeneration. This regeneration process is vulnerable to such factors as nutrition, stress, and age. Anthocyanidins help inhibit the initial breakdown of retinal purple as well as replenish the regeneration process.

Anthocyanidins also assist in the more general functions of supporting microcirculation and quenching free radicals as well as reinforcing the structure of the retinal capillaries. This is especially important since there is growing evidence implicating free radicals as the cause of cataracts and macular degeneration, and Bilberry-Grapeskin contains the required antioxidants to quench them.
